KAMAZ-MASTER SET A COURSE FOR RALLY DAKAR-2018

On 12 November trucks of KAMAZ-master Team took a long road to the start of rally-raid Dakar-2018. It was preceded by traditional test of the team on the training area in Tarlovka. The President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the General Director of PJSC “KAMAZ” Sergey Kogogin, the Minister of Sport and Youth Policy of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov and the Mayor of Naberezhnye Chelny Nail Magdeev came here in order to see off members of KAMAZ-master Team for Dakar and wish them good luck.

NOT EVERYONE CAN CONQUER THE DUNES

“Due to the great number of huge dunes, the 12th stage will become one of the most challenging on the route”, - that is how the race organizers described today’s special and they were right. For some contestants dunes became an impossible target.

ROAD TO JIAYUGUAN

The 11th stage of the rally should have become second with neutralization zone, but the first special section was cancelled as it ran through the protected nature reserve. In the very cancelled part there were dunes, so long-awaited by all participants to test their trucks and themselves.

INTRIGUE IN THE TRUCKS

The rally caravan arrived in Dunhuang. This stage participants and organizers remembered by the sandy storm last year. Then the special was cancelled as even safety helicopters couldn’t take off. This year Dunhuang didn’t bring any surprise of that kind. Cloudy weather and light rain only made work of mechanics easier.

FIRST DUNES OF THE SILK WAY RALLY

The 9th stage gave the participants and photographers first  long-awaited big dunes. The height of one dune could be up to the 10-storied building. The main difficulty is that you never know what is behind the dune, what its other side is and you need to choose the correct speed not to get stuck on its top.

SURPRISES AT THE FINAL RUSSIAN STAGE

On the stage Ufa-Kostanai sportsmen had to overcome 329,25 km of the final Russian special, that consisted of fast tracks with lots of changes of direction. Fast, technical tracks among bushes, high grass and thorough work with the road book – that’s how one could describe this SS. Swampy areas were changed by steppes, and rains were gradually changed by the sun. All that make a special more diverse and prepares racers to different surprises on the route.

TROPHY RAID CONTINUES

Special section Cheboksary-Ufa wasn’t easy for the pilots from Naberezhnye Chelny city. Judging by the dirty look of the vehicles at the finish line, it was easy to understand that the stage was different from the previous one only with length. Yesterday’s heavy rains made the situation even more difficult, and many teams had the only target – to reach the finish line.

On 6th June Red Bull, with support of VTB bank and TOTAL company organized an interesting event. KAMAZ race truck and a race car of Peugeot Sport Team got aboard a barge and floated down the Moskva river. In the evening pilots of the team could join the event.

`Great steppe – Don`: final day of the race

Last day of bakha `Volgograd` participants had to pass the same route as one of yesterday’s specials, but in the oppose direction. Last 145 kilometers were deciding in identifying leaders of the rally-raid `Great Steppe – Don`. There weren`t navigation problems as the track had already been rolled the day before. Under the training and test program two crews of KAMAZ-master Team passed the track accurately and without any halts.

GREAT STEPPE DON – THE SECOND DAY OF THE RACE

On the second day of the rally “Great Steppe – Don” two special sections with length of 145 and 169 kilometer awaited the sportsmen. First part of the track was laid on cross-country terrain with plenty of  balks, and easy field tracks were changed by barely noticeable ones. Long and dense grass of Volgograd steppes, not burned by the Sun yet, added navigational difficulties and unpleasant surprises to navigators. Therefore, particular vigilance was needed.

On Friday, June 2, official start was given to the Open Cup of Automobile and Motorbike Sport in Volgograd area `Great Steppe-Don`. More than 50 drivers, including a large number of sportsmen from Volgograd and its area, took part in it. Organizers of the competition were the region’s Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and Volgograd Regional Social Organization `Club of Amateurs of Off-Road Sports`.

ANDREY KARGINOV’S CREW WON THE SECOND STAGE OF RUSSIAN RALLY-RAID CHAMPIONSIP

Third and the last stage of the Bakha “Krym” (Crimea) was represented by two laps, 88 km each, and ended on the 30th of April. “Traditionally, I planned this special stage as a “navigator performance”, said Sergey Talantsev, the developer of the track, - today they will have a titanic job – a lot of heavily noticeable pathways, a lot of slopes into deep ravines, a lot of stones, which are described in the roadbooks.

BAKHA “KRYM”: DAY TWO

The programme of the second day of Bakha “Krym” (Crimea) was a 222-kilometer lap, which was supposed to be conquered two times by participants. Picturesque special section blazed on fast tracks among vineyards abounded with rocks and sometimes reminded of South American “Dakar” tracks, and in this sense it was useful for KAMAZ crews as a training and a vehicle test. Tire cuts and punctures were the main problem of the day.

THE FIRST START OF THE SEASON

More than 70 contestants applied for participation in the race, taking place on 11 and 12 February. There were 6 categories in the competition: Micro, Super-Mini, Honda, Rotax-Max Junior, Rotax-Max and Free Category. The sportsmen were from Izhevsk, Syktyvkar, Kovrov and Nizhnekamsk cities. In this hard battle the first among teams was KAMAZ-CART 1 Team from Naberezhnye Chelny.

Today has finished the rally Dakar-2017, which started on 2 January in the capital of Paraguay Asuncion. KAMAZ-master Team took first and second positions in the truck category. The crew Eduard Nikolaev-Evgeny Yakovlev-Vladimir Rybakov became first and the crew Dmitry Sotnikov-Ruslan Akhmadeev-Igor Leonov took the second position. Gerard De Rooy (IVECO) conquered the third position in this uneasy battle.

Contestants of Africa Eco Race finished the last battle of the rally-marathon and the race officials recorded their finals results. In the general classification of the truck category the first place was taken by the crew of Andrey Karginov. Another crew of the team (the pilot is Sergey Kuprianov) took the fourth position.

Dakar-2017: KAMAZ-master crews increase the gap from IVECO

12 January, San Juan  The cancellation of the stage Salta-Chilecito gave a reprieve to the Dakar contestants. They arrived at mining town Chilecito  and did  necessary repair and maintenance works after the marathon stage La Pas – Uyuni-Salta. Taking into consideration the length of the liaison to Chilecito -675 km – assistance teams had to work in a mad rush, and due to the landslide and a huge traffic jam a lot of people reached the bivouac only by the morning of 11 January.

Contestants of Africa Eco Race 2017 have already left the 10th stage behind. It was next to last special in the rally-marathon. The race officials made the circular SS quite challenging for the sportsmen, although the crew of Andrey Karginov could keep the leading position among trucks in the general standings.

10 January, Salta  Argentinian Salta met the rally-marathon participants with rain. Bad weather conditions still chase Dakar. However, the contestants are not going to forgive the race officials for it, as they were aware of the rain season in these parts. At the same time they highly commended the work of the race director Marc Coma, because he managed to create a various and at the same time challenging route without “sandy” and “desert” countries like Chile and Peru  with Atacama Desert. Thus, in some ways he could regain the reputation of the race after straight and boring tracks (similar to classical rally tracks) of recent years.

Contestants of Africa Eco Race passed the first Mauritanian SS.  In order to toe the starting line on time the sportsmen had to leave the bivouac in Dakhla at around 5 o’clock in the morning, they also had to cross the border of Morocco and Mauritania.

The second half of today’s special was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. However, the first part was really interesting and various.

5 January, Tupiza On the fourth day after the start in Asuncion Dakar-2017 reached Bolivia. Till the very last moment the Bolivian part of the race was up in the air due to a heavy drought in that region. 131 and 139 municipal districts of Bolivia experience a severe shortage of drinking water. On 21 November the President Evo Morales announced about the emergency rule.

Eduard Nikolaev wins the third stage of Dakar-2017

4 January, Tucuman The leg Tucuman-Jujuy became first off-road test for contestants of the Dakar Rally. The special with length of 199 km consisted of two separate parts, divided by 300-km neutralization area. The route was laid in the foothills of Andes and was much more interesting than the yesterday’s  route for drivers and for co-drivers. The second part of the distance went on the height of more than 3800 meters among picturesque mountains and canyons, across dried-up river beds and along narrow mountain roads. The sportsmen could also see San Martin in the hazy air.

3 January, Tucuman The curve of the elevation profile of today’s special Resistencia – Tucuman is almost a straight line – changeless 250 meters above sea level. Burned by the sun flat Chaco valley became a battle field of the second race day of Dakar-2017. Translated from the Kechua language “chaco” is a “hunting land”. It’s a quite suitable name for today’s 284-km special. “The chasing” has really begun!

Asuncion – Resistencia: at full throttle across Chaco

After stuffy Paraguayan capital, with its slums and derelict architectural buildings in the city centre, sportsmen were happy to find themselves in great spaces of semi deserted, sparsely populated, hot, tropical Gran Chaco.

DAKAR-2017 STARTED IN ASUNCION

2 January, Asuncion  The ceremonial start of Dakar-2017 was held on 1 January in the capital of Paraguay, Asuncion. The rally organizers continued the tradition of carrying out the start podium separately from the race start itself. The show started at 17:00 local time and finished only late in the evening.

Africa Eco Race 2017 has started.

Today on 31 December an official start of the huge rally-raid Africa Eco Race 2017 was given in Monaco. Two Russian crews of KAMAZ-master Team are going to perform in the truck category – the crews of Andrey Karginov and Sergey Kuprianov.
