The second stage of Africa Eco Race is already behind. Today the sportsmen drove 370 km of the special and around 30 km more to the start and from the finish to the bivouac along public roads.
The crew of Andrey Karginov was again first on the finish line in the truck category, firming up his leadership in his category.
“I’m quite satisfied with the leg. Though at the very start, on approximately the 5th km of the special our wheel was punctured. It took us 6 min to repair it and we drove at fast speed, though the track was challenging and tough,” – said Andrey Karginov.
The pilot of the second KAMAZ-master crew on Africa Eco Race, Sergey Kuprianov, called today’s special “amazing”.
“When everything goes well, without any surprise, you would like it to go on longer. Though, there was one moment today: we saw two similar tracks, and at first we chose the left one, but then we realized that it was wrong and return to the right track. And there gathered about ten vehicles. We overran two trucks, some cars and shoot ahead,’ – said Sergey Kuprianov.
Kuprianov’s crew continues to test on Africa Eco Race new tires with special tread pattern. “Moreover, our tires are quite stiff. Sometimes, you don’t notice something on the track and you have to brake hard, and as a result patterns wear out. It is not like that with the very tires, and it is great”, - added Sergey Kuprianov.
Africa Eco Race organizers lead a common rating of sportsmen in the category of “cars” and “trucks”. It adds spice into the race, thinks Andrey Karginov. “Why not? We will try to fight for the leadership, if we can, if not – we will take the place that we deserve,” – added the sportsman.
After first two legs of Africa Eco Race Andrey Karginov’s crew takes the first position in the truck category and second in the general classification. Sergey Kuprianov takes the second position in the truck category.
For Wednesday, 4 January, the race organizers prepared a special with the length of 430 km. 100 km more the sportsmen will drive on liaison.
