Africa Eco Race: the Day of a Tyre Fitter.

01.01.2016

Stones, stones, stones, a lot of stones and punched wheels – this is the 4th day in Africa. It was almost impossible to save tyres. Anton Shibalov’s crew had the third win of the special stage today. His truck got two flats, Anton had one wheel changed, and he managed to endure to the finish with the second one. Hybrid KAMAZ of Sergey Kuprianov (the 3rd position) had to stop four times on the special stage. First time - to help a motorbike rider. He had fallen, and perhaps the crash was so strong that it was difficult for him to stand and he couldn’t raise his motorbike. Two stops were made for wheel changing and the 4th one – the pumping tube was broken because of stones. At a distance of 70 km before the finish we had no spare tyres left and we were reaching the finish as accurate as possible. And it is clear why, Anton Sazonov, our friend from the Kazakh Mobilex team, was standing on the route without a single spare tire. He was waiting for someone passing by, who could share with one. Just before the finish we caught up Mathieu Serradori, #210 on his Buggy. He was driving slow and we aimed to beat him, but saw him going on three wheels and let him finish first.

Judging by the description of stages we have overcome the rocky part of Morocco, tomorrow it will be a sand stage! 454 km of sand route surrounded by trees, bushes instead of rocks, which we are already used to, are in front of us!
