Vladimir Chagin: "It is important to keep the result to the end of the race"
18.01.2013
"Fight in trucks category turned into duel between KAMAZ trucks!", "Andrey Karginov attacks at the first opportunity" - such epithets journalists used today in their releases devoted to the 12th stage of Dakar. Really, KAMAZ pilots showed their best at the stage Fiambala – Copiapo, and Andrey Karginov having won the 4th stage of Dakar in his career showed the true combativity.
Ayrat Mardeev reached the finish line after Andrey (+00:02:36). Eduard Nikolaev with the seventh result at the stage (+00:06:27) was cautious today and it is absolutely justified – with a half-hour lead over his nearest rival there is no reason to risk.
Following the results of 12 stages and in two days before the finish in Santiago KAMAZ have the first three places in general classification of trucks category.
Vladimir Chagin unlike representatives of the press is more discreet in the appraisal of results of the guys:
- There are two difficult stages ahead, two hard days. All of us know from Dakar history that even the last day can change everything, especially with such a difference in time, which we have now. I think this Dakar will be interesting until the last minute; tension will remain till the podium.
- Can you give, for today, a brief description of each young pilot of the team individually?
- Andrey after the failure at the beginning of the race tries to go back the time and show a good result. He does it well; he is driving steady these days. Ayrat and
Edik are more cautious. Especially Eduard. Now he has to keep the result. Ayrat places a priority on accuracy and cautiousness, and it helps us. The race showed that all competitors lose time. We have lost less. This is because the guys have very high sense of responsibility at this race.
