Villa Carlos Paz, 15 January
The pre-last stage of Dakar 2016 did not bring any principal changes to the general classification. Long 900 km separated San Juan, located in the mountains, and Villa Carlos Pas, gravitating towards Pampas. Pilots of cars, motorbikes and quads had to overcome half of the distance along the route of fast special section. A shortened route of 274 km long awaited the truck crews. Truck dimensions were not very convenient for narrow tracks at the start of the distance today. Thick vegetation and stones on the sides of the roads were dangerous for wheels. Dust covered dry roads and hindered overpasses. There were a lot of stream crossings, without much navigation tasks. Dmitry Sotnikov had some technical issues on the stage, but taking into consideration his position in the general classification, his delay did not matter at all. The main target for “KAMAZ-master” was to keep the second position of Airat Mardeev, which they managed to do.
The final stage of Dakar Rally and finish in Rosario await the competitors on January, 16.
