Pilot Dmitriy Sotnikov about the fifth stage: "We started in a minute after Elizabeth; we knew that we would keep her in sight and try to catch her pace. As a result it happened. Quite quickly we were able to catch up her, after about 20 km, and on the 30th km we were already ahead. The start was fast, winding, and then a slow narrow sandy road began, broken, difficult, we could draw away. It was a real hummocky marsh, big humps, very dense, which did not break under the wheel, it was impossible to go around humps, only piloting strategy determined the speed at this section. The experience of trainings in Astrakhan helped us a lot.
Then to the middle of the distance there was the alternation of fast, hilly and rocky sections, we were overtaken by several jeeps, and we felt that Elizabeth was not far. Rocky areas are her elements, and on one of them she was close to us, I saw the dust from her truck in the mirror. But the second part of the stage was very fast, winding and we started to go ahead.
After the middle we were driving quietly, carefully: everybody was on a high speed and it is not easy to win back something on such sections, and the cost of mistake is very high."
